Year 4

The new national curriculum is taught through topics, wherever possible, in order to increase the enjoyment and engagement of the children.  Authors and subject specialists are invited into school and trips are organised out of school to provide enrichment.

Every Tuesdabecket primary school musicy the children have violin tuition from Music Partnership teachers.

The work in Year 4 is always differentiated to match the learning stage of the children and the needs of the less able and more able are addressed through a range of extra support as needed.  The children are made aware of how they are doing and what their next steps in learning are, through daily feedback and termly 1:1 mentor meetings where attainment targets are reviewed and set.

Every Wednesday a ‘Learning Journal’ is sent home, informing parents about what the children have been learning that week, and how they have been learning it.  Maths and English homework is given out on Wednesdays and needs to be handed in by the following Tuesday.  The homework is differentiated and is always related to the work that the children have been doing in class.  If the children need support to complete their homework, they can attend the key stage 2 homework club which runs every Thursday from 3.15 to 4.15pm.

On Thursdays half of the class go swimming at Queen Street Baths, whilst the other half are taught PE at school.  The groups are then swapped for the second half of the year.  The pupils also have PE every Friday.

Pupils recently took part in a Puzzle Day within school.  Click here to see the photos.
