What Superhero name can we give planet Earth? (Mainly science based topic looking at forces, light, volcanoes and earthquakes).
How would you spend your money? (A geography based topic looking at the local area and the wider Derby area).
Children take part in visits to local museums, the Central Library and walks around the local area to support their learning and understanding. They also have the opportunity to experience visits from authors and artists who are able to offer inspiration and encouragement.
The children are kept up to date with their learning targets and what the next steps in their learning are. They take part in termly meetings on a 1:1 basis with their class teacher, to look at their current achievements and what they need to do next to ensure that they continue to make good progress.
Homework is given out every Wednesday and must be returned by the following Tuesday. Three pieces of homework are given out each week, one numeracy, one literacy and one topic. Spellings must also be taken home to practice.
All Year 3 children take part in swimming lessons at Queen Street Baths. They benefit from a half hour session every week which takes place on a Tuesday. They learn how to swim and about water safety.
As well as swimming, the children also take part in P.E. where they learn to develop their skills in gymnastics, dance and games. All children must have a P.E. kit in school which should include shorts, t-shirt and pumps. A tracksuit is important in the winter.
